Georgia Woman Arrested for DUI After Refusing Sobriety Test

A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Athens-Clarke County, Georgia, after a deputy stopped her vehicle for striking a curb and parking crooked. Bodycam footage released by Bodycam Zero captured the traffic stop and subsequent arrest.

According to the video, the deputy approached the vehicle and detected the odor of alcohol. The driver told the deputy she had only consumed one beer before getting behind the wheel.

The deputy asked the woman to perform a field sobriety test. She declined to participate. Under Georgia's implied consent law, refusal to submit to field sobriety or chemical testing can result in immediate arrest and additional administrative penalties, including license suspension.

Footage shows the woman later asking to take the sobriety test after being placed in handcuffs. She repeatedly told the deputy that she had not understood the consequences of declining the test when it was first offered.

The deputy proceeded with the arrest based on the totality of circumstances, including the odor of alcohol, the manner of driving, and her refusal to submit to testing. She was taken into custody and transported for booking.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has not released additional details regarding the woman's identity or the final disposition of her case. As with all criminal cases, she is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
