Athens Driver Arrested for DUI After Striking Curb

A traffic stop in Athens, Georgia resulted in a DUI arrest after officers observed a driver strike a curb, according to bodycam footage obtained through a public records request.

The driver told the responding officer she had worked a bar shift earlier in the evening and had consumed one shot of Pink Whitney around 10 p.m. Officers requested she perform a series of field sobriety tests after making contact with her at the scene.

Following the field sobriety testing, the officer administered a breath test. The results showed a blood alcohol concentration more than two and a half times Georgia's legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Based on the results of the breath test and the driver's performance on the field sobriety exercises, the officer placed her under arrest for driving under the influence. The footage shows the traffic stop, the field sobriety testing, and the arrest without any added narration.

Georgia law prohibits operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent or higher. Penalties for a DUI conviction in the state can include fines, license suspension, mandatory alcohol education programs, and potential jail time depending on prior offenses and other circumstances.
