Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies rescued a 1-year-old child who was accidentally locked inside a vehicle at a Palm Coast Walmart on Monday afternoon, May 20.
The incident occurred around 5:05 p.m. when a woman called 911 reporting that her daughter had been locked inside a vehicle in the store's parking lot. The engine was turned off and all windows were closed, creating a dangerous situation for the trapped child.
FCSO deputies and Palm Coast Fire Department personnel responded to the emergency call. Body camera footage captured the rescue operation as first responders worked to safely extract the child from the locked vehicle.
The rescue highlights the serious dangers posed by children being left or trapped in vehicles, particularly during Florida's warm climate. Even with moderate outdoor temperatures, the interior of a closed vehicle can reach life-threatening levels within minutes.
Deputies successfully freed the child from the vehicle. The incident appears to have been accidental, with no criminal charges indicated in the initial report.
