Stuart Police Arrest Driver Twice Legal Limit in DUI Stop

A Stuart police officer arrested a 23-year-old woman on DUI charges after stopping her white Toyota Corolla for drifting into a bike lane and weaving across the lane divider on the Roosevelt Bridge.

According to bodycam footage, the officer initiated the stop after observing the vehicle fail to maintain a single lane. When questioned, the driver told the officer she had never been pulled over before and said she had "drank a little bit, but not like anything crazy."

The officer conducted a series of field sobriety exercises. The driver stepped off the line during the walk and turn test and interrupted the officer's instructions. During the one-leg stand, she began counting aloud and reached 18 before the officer ended the exercise.

She was taken into custody and transported to jail, where breath tests recorded blood alcohol readings of .153 and .154, nearly twice the legal limit of .08 in Florida. She later admitted to drinking two tequila seltzers before driving.

According to the video description, one of the passengers in the backseat of her vehicle had already been arrested for DUI earlier that same night by the same officer.

The driver faces charges of driving under the influence under Florida Statute 316.193, driving on a sidewalk or bicycle path, and failure to drive in a single lane.

All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case was handled by the Stuart Police Department.
