Tampa Woman Arrested for DUI After Being Struck by Driver

A Tampa woman identified as Amanda was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after being involved in a crash caused by another driver, according to police body camera footage.

Officers responded to the scene of a two-vehicle collision where the other driver admitted to sideswiping Amanda's car while attempting to pass a slower vehicle, pushing her vehicle into a pole. Despite acknowledging fault for the crash, the other driver was not arrested.

While working the scene, officers noted that Amanda had been driving in a bike lane before the crash and appeared disoriented. Body camera footage shows officers discussing that something seemed off about her behavior, prompting them to call a DUI investigator to the scene.

Amanda told officers she had consumed two drinks during lunch earlier that day. Officers also noted she believed her keys were still in the ignition of her car, though they were later found in the pocket of her dress.

After conducting a series of field sobriety exercises, officers placed Amanda under arrest on suspicion of DUI. She later provided two breath samples showing blood alcohol content levels of .176 and .194, more than twice Florida's legal limit of .08.

The footage of the arrest was obtained through a public records request and shows the full interaction between Amanda and responding officers, including the field sobriety testing and her eventual arrest.
