Woman Accuses Officers Of Stealing $700 During DUI Arrest

A woman arrested for DUI in Margate, Florida accused officers of taking $700 from her wallet during booking, according to body camera footage released by Burner Body Cam.

The arresting officer stated that the woman veered into his lane while he was in a turn lane, nearly causing a head-on collision before she corrected and pulled behind a shopping plaza. The officer reported observing slurred speech, glossy eyes, and the smell of alcohol. He also noted liquid and ice in the back seat along with an empty cup.

According to the footage, the officer said he had initially considered allowing the woman to park her vehicle and avoid arrest. She refused to exit the car and continued reaching into the back seat after being instructed to stop, prompting officers to remove her from the vehicle and place her in handcuffs.

The woman declined to perform field sobriety exercises. When asked to take a breath test, she repeatedly stated she would comply once her attorney arrived. The officer read Florida's implied consent law and recorded her response as a refusal.

At the station, a dispute arose over money in her possession. The woman insisted multiple times that she had $700 in her wallet at the time of arrest. Officers told her that the amount logged during booking was $122 and that the count had been conducted on body camera footage.

The woman accused officers of taking the difference, stating on camera, "Or you stole it." Officers maintained that the recorded amount reflected what was in the wallet during the documented count.

The case remains under the jurisdiction of local authorities, with the DUI charge stemming from the traffic stop and the woman's refusal to submit to a breath test. No additional charges related to the money dispute have been reported.
