Woman Arrested for DUI After Refusing Police Orders
A woman was arrested for driving under the influence after initially refusing to exit her vehicle during a traffic stop on US Route 1. Officers pulled her over for traveling 83 mph in a 45 mph zone and reckless driving.
When asked to step out of the car, the woman repeatedly refused to comply with officers' lawful orders. She insisted she was driving the same speed as other vehicles and claimed familiarity with the area, stating she had grown up there and had never been pulled over before.
After more than a dozen commands to exit the vehicle, officers escalated the situation. During the encounter, they discovered empty alcohol containers inside the car and detected the smell of alcohol, prompting a DUI investigation.
The woman was transported to a police station where she underwent field sobriety exercises. Officers observed signs of impairment during the testing process.
Following the field sobriety tests, the woman was formally arrested and charged with driving under the influence. The case stems from the initial traffic violation for excessive speeding and reckless driving on the busy highway corridor.
