Woman Charged with Fentanyl Possession After Traffic Stop

Britney Benard was arrested by Flagler County Sheriff's deputies after a routine traffic stop escalated when drug paraphernalia was discovered in her vehicle. The incident began when Benard rolled through a stop sign while leaving a racetrack in Flagler County.

Initially, Benard was cooperative with deputies and admitted her driver's license was suspended. She told officers she was heading to Ralph Carter Park to see her children. The stop appeared routine until deputies conducted a search of her truck.

During the search, deputies found a jar containing marijuana leaves, a digital scale in her purse that she claimed belonged to her boyfriend, and a spoon with white residue. Benard insisted the residue on the spoon was from food she had eaten months earlier.

When the deputy informed Benard that the spoon had field-tested positive for fentanyl, her demeanor changed dramatically. She became agitated and denied the drug belonged to her, stating it was not her drug of choice.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office charged Benard with driving while license suspended with knowledge, possession of marijuana under 20 grams, and possession of fentanyl. The incident was captured on deputy body cameras and obtained through a public records request.
