Man Confesses to Homicide in Police Station Parking Lot

Mamadi Tambajang confessed to killing 31-year-old Amber Kelly in the parking lot of Sandy Springs Police Department on May 15, 2024. The 31-year-old suspect had asked his brother to drive him to the station, telling him he had "done something bad" and was going to turn himself in.

Bodycam footage shows Tambajang never entered the police building. Instead, he confessed to officers in the parking lot after his brother waited for 40 minutes before leaving. Officers immediately recognized they were dealing with a potential homicide case.

The video captures the moment officers read Tambajang his Miranda rights and his subsequent request for an attorney. It also shows the serving of a search warrant for his clothing and DNA evidence. A detective's eight words to Tambajang prompted a notable reaction from the suspect.

Officers then traveled to Tambajang's family home to interview his mother, brother, and a family friend. Each family member learned about the incident on camera. The victim, Amber Kelly, had previously been assaulted by Tambajang two years earlier in Norcross, Georgia.

Tambajang's mother had experienced this situation before when her son was previously arrested for assaulting Kelly. At that time, his attorney had assured her there would be no further contact with the victim.

Tambajang was indicted in Fulton County, Georgia on seven counts: one count of malice murder, three counts of felony murder, and three counts of aggravated assault.
