Judge Cited for Public Urination, Husband Arrested for Interference
Prescott Police officers cited Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Pro Tempore Kristyne Schaaf-Olson for public urination on October 4, 2025, after responding to reports near Montezuma and Gurley Street. The incident occurred on the same block as the Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza.
Officers found Schaaf-Olson on a bench after witnesses flagged them down. Bodycam footage shows the judge appearing intoxicated and struggling to spell her own name during the interaction with police. She identified herself to officers as "Judge Kristyne Olson."
During the investigation, Jason Olson, the Parks and Recreation Manager for the Town of Chino Valley and Schaaf-Olson's husband, arrived at the scene. Video shows Olson attempting to pull his wife away from officers and repeatedly ignoring commands to step back from the investigation.
Officers took Jason Olson to the ground and arrested him after his continued interference with their investigation. He was cited for resisting arrest, interfering with a crime scene investigation, and obstruction of government operations before being booked into the Yavapai County Jail.
Schaaf-Olson received a citation for public urination but was not arrested at the scene. Two days following the incident, Judge Schaaf-Olson resigned from her position on the bench. Jason Olson faces multiple charges related to his interference with the police investigation.
