Sheriff's Sergeant Arrested Twice for Drunk Driving
Lucas County Sheriff's Sergeant Kristin Matuszewski was arrested for drunk driving twice in 16 months, with his blood alcohol content measuring more than four times the legal limit in the most recent incident. The dual arrests occurred in Ohio and Michigan, ultimately leading to his resignation from the sheriff's office.
In March 2024, Sylvania Police pulled over Matuszewski in a rental car after receiving two complaints of reckless driving, including one report from a fellow law enforcement officer. He was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence and later released to family members. Following this arrest, Matuszewski signed a last-chance agreement with the Lucas County Sheriff's Office to retain his position.
On July 18, 2025, a passing motorist discovered Matuszewski slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle, which was stopped in the middle of a road in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. Monroe County deputies responded to the scene, where Matuszewski refused to submit to sobriety tests. During the arrest, he repeatedly asked officers not to take him to jail, stating he would lose his job, and reminded deputies that he was a peace officer.
Blood test results from the Michigan incident showed Matuszewski's blood alcohol content exceeded four times the legal limit of 0.08 percent. The Lucas County Sheriff's Office placed him on administrative leave immediately following the Michigan arrest. Matuszewski submitted his resignation on August 1, 2025, which the sheriff's office accepted.
