Woman Arrested for DUI After Blowing 3.2x Legal Limit
A Florida woman was arrested for driving under the influence after registering a blood alcohol content more than three times the legal limit during a Wednesday morning traffic stop. The driver, identified as Carrie, was pulled over for speeding through a school zone shortly before 9 AM.
Carrie told the deputy she had just left work feeling sick and was trying to get home. When the deputy detected an odor of alcohol, he called for backup to conduct standardized field sobriety testing. The woman claimed her last drink was around 10 PM the previous night and that she had eaten breakfast at her office.
Carrie informed officers she was taking hypertension and anti-anxiety medication and suffered from vertigo and balance issues affecting her ear. Despite these explanations, she failed multiple field sobriety tests including the eye exam, walk-and-turn, and one-leg-stand tests.
After being placed in handcuffs, Carrie again mentioned her medication use. The arresting deputy responded that being on medication does not preclude someone from being under the influence and might actually increase impairment.
At the police station, Carrie provided three breath samples that registered .256, .235, and .242. Florida's legal blood alcohol limit is .08, meaning her readings were more than three times the legal threshold. Her vehicle was subsequently towed from the scene.
Carrie was charged with driving under the influence following the incident.
